Community Involvement
Thank you for electing me as your representative for Division 4 in the new South Burnett Regional Council.

I believe I have built up a high level of understanding of Local Government and will continue to invest my skills and experience for the betterment of the new Regional Council.

I  want a united South Burnett.

I have committed to and served the community by my involvements in many, many different organisations.

I have built up a vast amount of experience and networks.

Most importantly, I am passionate about any position I take on and serving the new Regional Shire would be an honour.

Since my retirement from full-time work with Bean Growers Australia, I have the time, commitment, experience, foresight and engagement with the community to step into the new Council structure and be ready to start work immediately with the knowledge that I have acquired over the past nine years in Local Government combined with more than 40 years I have spent in business at a senior executive level.

Council Experience

I joined Kingaroy Shire Council in 1999 to fill a vacancy caused by the unexpected death of Cr Kevin Wolski. I then contested the 2000 and 2004 elections, topping the poll on each occasion.

I have the time, the commitment, and engagement with the community to step into the new Regional Council and make a professional contribution.

Over the past nine years I have held the Council portfolios of Finance and Corporate Services and Engineering and Works. In addition I am a member of the following committees:

  • Sustainable Economic Development
  • Enterprise Bargaining
  • Workplace Health and Safety
Regional Strength

I believe there is value in having strong regional local governments.

I am a Forum Member of the Wide Bay Burnett Ministerial Regional Consultative Committee.

There is now an improved opportunity for the South Burnett to achieve some of the efficiencies of scale that will bring about an effective unit delivering best practice in service delivery.

We have a strong community of interest in the South Burnett Regional Shire which has been built up over many, many years.

We now need to build on the opportunity to enhance this relationship and build a united South Burnett.

As a regional Council, we need to apply greater attention in terms of specialist health services, community infrastructure, industrial development and retail activities together with the necessities of roads, rates and rubbish.

We can look forward to continued growth and this will require a group of skilled and experienced Councillors to lead us through Council reform to the new South Burnett Regional Council.

My Aims

  • Build on my knowledge of the entire South Burnett Regional Shire – its towns, small communities, businesses, sporting and recreational places etc

  •
  • Ensure the South Burnett Region attracts appropriate recognition in terms of social and community infrastructure

  •
  • Encourage a high level of team spirit among the Mayor, Councillors and Senior Staff

  •
  • Ensure accountability of newly appointed Councillors

  •
  • Develop a strong communications process between constituents and Council

  •
  • Ensure that ratepayer dollars are spent wisely in the provision of the basic services of roads, rates and rubbish

  •
  • Keep control on expenditure leading to affordable rates and charges

  •
  • Create opportunities for economic development to encourage new business growth and employment for young people and new residents

  •
  • Complete negotiations to ensure secure water supplies for each town in the region

  •
  • Apply contemporary management principles to ensure best practice outcomes
Your Comments

I am seeking views from ratepayers about the new Regional Shire and so far I have had these comments:

  • Develop forecourt of Kingaroy Town Hall to create a town centre

  •
  • Work in partnership with Kingaroy Show Society to encourage the best use of the Showground area for the benefit of sporting, recreational and cultural enterprises

  •
  • Enhance social infrastructure for the aged and disabled as well as improved recreational and entertainment opportunities for youth, young adults and families

  •
  • Ensure adequacy of car parking spaces in Kingaroy

I invite you to let me know your thoughts on what is on your “wish list”.
