I
was born in Kingaroy. My parents, the late Marshall and Grace Campbell,
were farmers from the Benair district between Kingaroy and Kumbia.
I was educated at the Benair State School and then Kingaroy State High School. After completing High School, I went to work for the Bank of New South Wales and was transferred to a number of centres throughout Queensland. But I was never posted to the Kingaroy Branch so I looked for ways of being able to return home, This happened in 1964 when Bean Growers Australia Ltd was first established as a growers co-operative. I started work as a clerk and within four years (when 24) was managing the business. At 34, I became the General Manager of a growing enterprise which had firmly established itself as a major force among some of Queensland’s leading commodity based agricultural businesses. Bean Growers Australia continued to grow and expand its reach into many agricultural locations in Queensland and Northern New South Wales. I retired as a full-time executive staff member in 2005 but was retained as a consultant / Director until December 2007. I must emphasise that the support and professionalism of the staff at BGA were extremely important to the success of this business which was a part of my life for more than 40 years. I am married to Marion and will celebrate 34 years of marriage in February 2008. We have two sons: Craig (married to Carmen), an Army Major with the Australian Defence Force, and Jonathan, an investment banker. |
